Files
Upload, download and delete your workspace's files, and decide who can use them.
Files is your workspace's file storage: documents, images, exports and anything your apps upload. Files go straight between the browser and storage, so large files don't slow anything else down.
Before you start
- To see and download files: the Member role or above. To upload or delete: Writer, Admin or Owner.
Upload a file
Open Files
Go to Data → Files and pick the workspace at the top of the page.
Upload
Click Upload and choose a file. It appears in the list when the upload completes.
The list shows each file's name, size, type, who uploaded it and when.
A single file can be up to 512 MiB. An upload that would put your organization over its file-storage limit is refused; see Quotas and limits.
Download or delete
- Download: click the download icon on the file's row. The link it opens works for one hour.
- Delete: click the trash icon and confirm. The file is removed from storage.
Who can use files
Your team can use files as their workspace role allows. Your app's users need a grant on Site access. A Files grant covers every file in the workspace; there are no per-file permissions. Coderunners use files with their M2M token.
Use files from code
An upload takes three requests: ask for an upload link, send the file to it, then confirm. Files in Shell apps shows the code; the Files API lists every request.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| An upload fails | The file didn't reach storage; some networks block uploads to storage | Try again; check that your network allows uploads |
| A file is stuck as pending | The upload was abandoned before it finished | Pending files are cleaned up automatically; or delete it |
| A download link stops working | Links expire after an hour | Click download again |
| The list is empty | The wrong workspace is selected | Check the workspace picker |
